Daguerreotype

Named after its inventor, Louis Daguerre, the daguerreotype was the first commercialized photographic process. With daguerreotypes, the exposed image appears on a thick silver copper plate with a mirrored surface. Because daguerreotypes are so fragile, they need to be conserved in special casings.
